The Charlemagne Pursuit

61WWbokK8LL__SS500_So I had just finished reading “The Charlemagne Pursuit” by Steve Berry; the fourth installment in the Cotton Malone Series.

I never know what to expect from a Berry novel, maybe it’s why I keep buying them. It was always either a miss or a hit, as for this one, it’s a hit.

I don’t know why, but I can never get tired of Berry’s protagonist Cotton Malone. For someone retired from the service, it seems like he’s never been more in trouble than he was before.

In this particular part of the series, Cotton Malone seeks closure from never really knowing what had happened to his father from a Sub tragedy that had happened thirty-eight years ago. Seeking help, for what he thought would be the last time, from his former boss, turns into a chaotic chain of events that drags him into another wild chase.

This time his adventure drags him from Germany down to the most isolated, desolated part of the planet, Antarctica.

Steve Berry has so many characters involved that you never really know who to trust. Not to mention, this time, most of the characters are new. I kind of miss Henrik Thorvaldsens and Cassiopeia Vitt, Berry’s two other most recurring protagonists next to Malone.

In this story, Berry gives the Aryan legend a new twist, and involves the great Emperor Charlemagne. Let’s admit it, why look for other worlds in outer space, when there is still so much left unexplored here in our very own home. Berry gives you a glimpse of what might be hiding in the depths of what still needs to be discovered. Insights on what could be the “Missing Link”. Our modern world should take heed on the message conveyed. For people like me, who craves a good plot on conspiracy theories, this is a good read.
